Details in brief
about the proposal to use Acherfield Airport for commercial passenger
jets:
A. The QANTAS
Jetstar proposal is very unlikely to go ahead because the
Archerfield runway is not long enough to handle 737 aircraft in
safety.
B. The OzJet
proposal is in the early stages of negotiation.
C. OzJet is owned
by by Paul Stoddart who has interests in aviation in Europe. Paul
Stoddart owns the Minardi Formula One racing team.
D. The aircraft to
be used are BA 146 (four engine jets) with a capacity of eighty to
hundred passengers depending on theseating configuration.
Initially OzJet intend to use six aircraft to fly between Brisbane
, Sydney and Melbourne with expansion to Adelaide to follow in
2005.
E. OzJet wants to
use "secondary" airports to save costs. Bankstown in Sydney,
Essendon or Moorabbin in Melbourne and Archerfield in Brisbane.
F. Mr. Stoddart
wants to tie everything up by October 2004 and to fully
operational by Christmas.
G. Reasons for
objections discussed at the AGM were based on noise, safety and
airport security.
