The Mandalay
Newsletter December 2003
I would like to thank the two local
residents who made our Picnic in the Park possible by sponsoring
the event again this year.
Jim Holden, who runs Wizard Auto Repair Clinic picked up the bills
for the fireworks and most of the essentials such as lights and
power etc.
Lesley Brown, from Nanette Lilley Property Centre, paid for the
band.

Hopefully our residents will say thanks to these kind people by
supporting the services they offer. Our thanks also to Ivan Gordon
who supplied our stage once again.
About six hundred and fifty residents and friends attended the
event and most of the feedback has been very positive.
Tighter council regulations have made it some what frustrating to
organise these events in recent years and my personal thanks to
Councillor Jane Prentice and her staff who made it so easy this
time.
Jane also managed to get the wild duck signs we requested and
hopefully these will encourage local residents and visitors to
slow down when there are families of ducks crossing the roads.
We also have a turtle population developing in the lagoon area.
Please encourage your children to enjoy the wildlife without
disturbing or endangering them.
Our membership drive has been successful and our membership
numbers are once again very healthy. Thank you for that. Without
numbers we can not do our work effectively.
The Clean Up Australia campaign included a good effort from local
residents who cleaned up our riverbank. We will be supporting this
program again in early 2004.
One final thing, next year we will be celebrating the 30th
Anniversary of the Mandalay Progress Association which I believe
is a remarkable effort.
I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all a wonderful
Christmas and may the New Year offer you that you ask of it.
