Picnic and Movie in the Park

I believe that Picnic and Movie in the Park in October, was the MPA’s most successful event to date.

The MPA would like to thank Cr Jane Prentice for sponsoring movie in the park and Cathy Lammie for sponsoring picnic in the park.

Also the MPA would like to thank the following people for their support:

• Bruce Wilson (Mandalay St) for the live music.
• Glenn Genrich (Kenny St) for the free BBQ.
• Ben (Donatella St) from Grasshopper Jumping Castles.

Without sponsorship and support this event would have cost the MPA just over $5 000 which is beyond our financial resources. I have already spoken to Cr Jane Prentice about sponsoring next year’s event.

River Park Upgrade

Cr Jane Prentice has signed off on the final plan for the River Park Upgrade on 20th November 2007.

Cr Jane Prentice has increased her contribution to $98 000. In total $164 000 will be spent on the park upgrade which includes playground equipment ($66 000), two electric barbeques ($48 000), three park shelters ($33 000) and four picnic table settings ($8 400).

It was now the responsible of the BCC Parks Division to finish the upgrade before 30 June 2007.

Biambi Yamba Park

I had a meeting with Cr. Jane Prentice about the Biambi Yamba Park, to see if monies could be allocated for the upgrade in the BCC 08/09 budget.

Seven Oaks Development

I received a letter in October from the Lord Mayor’s Office about the Fig Tree Pocket Local Plan and the 10 metre vegetation corridor.

I have put a copy of the letter on the MPA website home page. The letter indicates that the Lord Mayor now understands the issue, but has not yet offered a solution.

I believe there is still a bit of work to be done to get the BCC to enforce the 10 m vegetation corridor along Fig Tree Pocket Road.

Mandalay Bushcare Group

The MBG held another working bee on Sunday 28 October 2007, unfortunately only 7 people attended. The group was able to plant over 100 native plants around the lagoon.

The MPA is looking at ways to get more residents involved in the working bees. If you want to be involved next year with the MBG please contact Col Williams on 3378 9667.

Clean Up Australia Day

This event will be on Sunday 2 March 2008, every year the MPA cleans up the rubbish along the banks of River Park.

Every year there is always a large amount of rubbish found along the river. The MPA will be putting on a free sausage sizzle with orange juice.

RSPCA

Jane McLauchlan intends donating pet food to the RSPCA. The Christmas period is one of their busiest times, with many animals being abandoned.

If any residents would like to contribute pet food, it can be left at 9 River Park Place.

MPA Membership

Currently membership is under 150 households, if you still have not joined the MPA for this financial year, it is never too late.

Just put your payment of ten dollars and your name and address in an envelope and drop it in the letterbox at 28 Michelangelo Street.

I would like to wish you all a Happy, Peaceful and Safe Christmas.
