Mandalay Newsletter February 2008

River Park Upgrade

As most residents are aware, the River Park playground equipment upgrade has started. It looks fantastic and will delight many local children.

In total, $164 000 will be spent on the park upgrade. This includes: playground equipment ($66 000), two electric barbeques ($48 000), three park shelters ($33 000) and four picnic table settings ($8 400).

The MPA would be like thank Cr. Jane Prentice for her contribution and support for the park upgrade.

Outdoor Fitness Gym

Recently I had a meeting with Cr. Jane Prentice to discuss the promotion of fitness activities in the Mandalay estate.

One suggestion was the establishment of a possible outdoor fitness gym in one of the Mandalay parks. These outdoor gyms are designed so residents can do exercises like sit ups, push ups, dips and chin ups. Most residents would have seen these outdoor gyms in schools and other local parks.

Cr. Jane Prentice said there is funding available in her Active and Healthy Communities budget. To be eligible for this fund, we need residents to fill out the attached survey on the back of this newsletter to determine if there is overwhelming support for an outdoor fitness gym in Mandalay.

MPA will collate the results of this survey and report the findings to Cr. Jane Prentice. The survey takes less than 5 minutes to complete and the MPA thanks you in advance for your time and effort.

To complete the survey: Fill out the information and nominate if you support / don’t support the proposal; and place / post to 28 Michelangelo Street, Fig Tree Pocket Q 4069.
Please note this survey will close on the 1st March 2008.

Biambi Yamba Park Upgrade

The BCC Park Division will be improving the landscaping of Biambi Yamba by planting more native scrubs and trees. This project is coming out of the City Smart fund.

The MPA discussed with Cr. Jane Prentice, a new playground and toilet facility for Biambi Yamba Park. Cr. Prentice will put in a submission to allocate funding for this project in BCC 2008/2009 budget.

MPA Annual General Meeting

The AGM will be held on Tuesday 11th March 2008 at 8 pm at Fig Tree Pocket State School Hall.

We ask all Mandalay residents to attend and show their support for the MPA. The MPA will provide food, wine and beer at the conclusion of the AGM.

More details about the AGM will be in the March 2008 newsletter. Please put this date in your diary!

Mandalay Bushcare Group [MBG]

The MBG is planning to have a weed control day in Biambi Yamba Park. Also, The MBG is planning to have a nighttime ‘Wildlife Safari by Torch Light’ in Biambi Yamba Park. For further information or to get involved in the MBG, please contact Col Williams on 3378 9667.

Clean Up Australia Day

This event will take place on Sunday 2 March 2008, at 8am. Please show your support by attending and registering at River Park.

Every year local residents collect rubbish along the banks of River Park on this day. There is always a large amount of rubbish collected every year.

The MPA will be putting on a free sausage sizzle with orange juice as a thank you to attendees.

Finally, I would like to thank the MPA committee for their hard work and support this year. I believe that this has been one of the most productive years in MPA history.
