BCC Active Parks Program - Free
On Saturday 17 May from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, at River Park
there will be heritage colonial games for all ages.
Celebrate Heritage Week by playing traditional colonial games
including sack races, tug of war, gum boot tossing, horse shoe
pitching, clothes line relay race, wheelbarrow races and much
more.
The group running this event for the BCC is “Life Be In It
Funworks” and can be contacted on 1300 367 386.
River Park Upgrade
As most residents are aware, the River Park upgrade is
nearly finished. We now have a park with great play equipment,
electric BBQs, shelters, tables and toilets.
The MPA again would be like thank Cr. Jane Prentice for her $100
000 ward park fund contribution towards the upgrade.
Biambi Yamba Park Upgrade
I had a meeting with Cr. Jane Prentice about upgrading
Biambi Yamba Park, as the final master plan for the park has not
been released. The draft plan was shown to Mandalay residents in
February 2004, I asked if she could get the BCC to release the
final plan.
Outdoor Fitness Gym
We had a very good response to the MPA survey about the
feasibility of an outdoor fitness gym in one of the Mandalay
parks. 55 residents returned the survey forms - 82% supported
the outdoor fitness gym and 18% were against.
The results have been forwarded to Cr. Jane Prentice who hopes
to incorporate the outdoor gym into the Biambi Yumba Park Master
Plan.
Picnic in the Park 2008
Each year the MPA holds the family event “Picnic in the
Park” in October. It is the responsibility of the MPA committee
to find sponsors for the event, since the cost of the event is
beyond our financial resources now.
We have started to plan this year’s event and we are looking for
sponsors. Please contact me for further information.
Clean Up Australia Day
On Sunday 2 March 2008, we had 30 residents help clean up
the river banks around Mandalay.
Again there was a lot of rubbish collected which included drinks
bottles, cigarette lighters, tennis balls and thongs. The
largest item collected was an electric hot water system.
Seven Oaks Development
In February I received a letter from the Lord Mayor about
the Seven Oaks vegetation corridor along Fig Tree Pocket Road
The BCC will register a vegetation covenant on the land tittles
for these properties in the Seven Oaks development. This is a
major win for the MPA.
I have placed a copy of the Lord Mayor’s letter on the MPA
website so residents can read it.
Fig Tree Pocket Bridge
Local State member Ronan Lee MLA, has recently floated the
idea of a pedestrian bridge between Sherwood and Fig Tree Pocket
in the Westside News. He is currently seeking feed back on the
idea.
