Picnic in the Park
With insurance problems, ever changing council regulations and tighter controls on fireworks displays, it's getting more and more difficult to organize our Picnic in the Park event.
Nonetheless we managed to get it all together and provided the weather is kind to us, the event will go ahead on Saturday 26th October 2002 from 5:30pm onwards. B.Y.O everything - we provide the live music and fireworks etc.
It would be appreciated if everybody attending could take their rubbish home and place it in their own wheelie bins. We have to clean up the following morning and there will also be an inspection by the council to see if we get back the rather large bond we had to submit before the council issued us with a permit.
State Government regulations relating to fireworks are also much tighter. Please stress on your children that they will not be permitted anywhere hear the firing area before, during or after the event.
Our thanks to our sponsors who have made it possible to hold this year's picnic in the park:

Neighbourhood Watch
Thank you to all those residents who responded to our request for expressions of interest in re-developing a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in the area. Unfortunately there are not enough interested residents to allow the scheme to work and we have had to abandon the initiative.
Local State Government member Ronan Lee was a great help with negotiations with the Police services and we did obtain everything we needed except for local interest.
Biami Yumba Park
Those of you who attended the information day held by Cr. Jane Prentice at the Fig Tree Pocket State School will be aware of the proposed changes to our central park. Most residents who viewed the plans expressed the opinion that they would prefer the park to remain the way it is.
The proposal to erect a toilet block in the park caused a mixed response. Parents of the playgroups who use the park some afternoons were keen on a toilet block but the numbers were about four to one against the proposal in total.
The opinion was expressed that it would be better to upgrade the play equipment in River Park that already has toilet facilities. The matter was discussed by our committee and it was decided to find out the opinion of a wider group of residents. The simple form at the bottom of this newsletter will allow you to express an opinion. Please drop the completed form into my letterbox at 40 Romanella Street. To save time you can also express your opinion online at our website www.mandalay.org.au/news.
That's about all for now. Don't forget to mark Saturday October 26th in your diary. It should be a great night.
