October 2007
Picnic and Movie in the Park
Saturday 13 October 2007 Biamba Yumba Park starts at 4 PM.
• Jumping Castles
• Mister Balloons
• Face Painter
• Live Music
• BBQ
• Children’s Movie at night
Residents and their guests are asked to BYO picnic to the park,
and enjoy the entertainment.
The movie will be shown in an area adjacent to picnic in the
park. The MPA ask people to bring torches so they can move
safely after the movie.
A lighting tower and toilets will be set up in the park.
The MPA would like to thank Cr Jane Prentice for sponsoring
movie in the park and Cathy Lammie for sponsoring the children’s
entertainment.
River Park Upgrade
The playground equipment and the BBQ facilities will be
replaced in the next few weeks. Cr Jane Prentice has allocated
an additional $20 000 to increase the park upgrade fund to $126
000.
Two picnic shelters will be built in the park and the large tree
next to the play equipment will be removed for safety reasons.
Seven Oaks Development
On Tuesday 18 Sept 2007, I had the opportunity to address the
sitting of Council about the Fig Tree Pocket Local Plan and
Seven Oaks development.
The Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor are very well aware of the
10 m vegetation corridor issue in Fig Tree Pocket as outlined in
the local town plan.
David Hinchliffe had the right of reply and said that the BCC
will look at enforcing the vegetation corridor for the Seven
Oaks development.
I would like thank the local residents who sent letters to the
BCC about the vegetation corridor and the Seven Oaks
development.
Mandalay Bushcare Group
The Mandalay Habitat Group has had a name changed and from now
on it will be known as the Mandalay Bushcare Group.
Unfortunately there was an act of vandalism to a number of
native trees around the lagoon area at Biamba Yumba Park. A
number of the new plants which were planted by the MBG were
badly damaged.
The MBG will be holding another working bee on Sunday 28 October
2007. Please check the park notice board for the start time.
The MPA will put on another sausage sizzle and supply cold soft
drinks and light beer after the working bee.
MPA Membership
The winner of the membership prize was won by Gerry King from
Mandalay Street.
At present about 110 households have joined the MPA, but I would
like to see the membership reach over 150 households this year.
Remember it is never too late to join the MPA and every
membership does count.
You can still drop your membership forms in the letter boxes at
34 Mandalay St or 28 Michelangelo St.
