MAJOR EVENT

We are planning a special event in our Central Park on Saturday 20th October 2001.  At 5:30pm a ceremonial tree planting by the Turrbal Aboriginal people will take place.

We would like as many residents as possible to take part in this. Following the tree planting, we will continue the evening with a B.Y.O everything "picnic in the park".

This will feature live music with an Irish flavour, and a large firework display. Please note that our fireworks displays have always been based on a spectacular but safe format.

The people in charge of the pyrotechnics were recently contracted for Riverfire 2001 and do all the Bronco's displays. I'm working with them to design a display that I am sure all residents you will enjoy.

Please respect the 'NO GO' zone on the afternoon in question.  Its important for safety reasons that we don't have people walking through a maze of electronic wiring and detonators.

Entry to the event is free for Mandalay Progress Association members although you can make a small donation to assist with costs should you wish to.

Since the event is paid for by membership fees, we would appreciate non members assisted with the costs by making a donation on the night.  A donation box will be set up near the stage.

Residents who are not M.P.A. members but would like to join can do so by filling out the form on the bottom of this newsletter and placing it in an envelope with five dollars.  Drop it in the donation box and we will forward a receipt.

Remember it's a B.Y.O everything evening. Take along your food and drink and something to sit on and we will provide the entertainment.

Please note if a local resident is a qualified electrician, we need help setting up the lighting on the Saturday afternoon. If you can assist us please contact me on 3378 8927.

MPA's Membership Drive

Our annual membership door knock was an outstanding success and our Association again represents the vast majority of homeowners in the area.

Thank you for your support.  It's a big help when we negotiate with the Council or State Government if we are supported by a large number of residents.

Fig Tree Pocket local plan

We made three submissions to the Brisbane City Council objecting to:

1. Small block and multi-unit housing developments;

2. Housing developments of any type on the land owned by Lone Pine that was flooded in 1974; and

3. The proposed shopping complex at Seven Oaks.

The submissions are displayed at our community notice board and our website.
