The
Mandalay Newsletter
September
2004
Our association has just
turned thirty and we feel that’s a good reason for a celebration.
The date set is Saturday evening of October 30th and the venue is
our central park.
The format is a picnic in
the park where you take your own food and refreshments and we
provide everything else with the help of our sponsors.
We intend to make this the
best event of its type we have ever staged, so mark the date in
your diary.
All we ask is that you take
your empties and rubbish home with you. There are not enough bins
in the park to cater for events of this size and we have to leave
the park clean and tidy. We usu-ally have committee members and
willing residents cleaning up the park the following morning but
usually there is very little to clean up. We thank you for that.
Please help us out again by leaving nothing behind when you leave.
One last request. Please
stay clear of the fireworks area before, during and after the
display. Our displays are very safe provided this simple request
is adhered to.
Annual membership fees are now due and a membership form and
envelope are attached.
It would help us enormously
if you could either post your membership de-tails and cheque for
$10 per family to the address stated or drop the form and money in
the locked letterbox at that address.
Strong membership allows us to work on behalf of the local
community. It also helps us fund community events such as our
picnic in the park.
As part of our anniversary
celebration we are reprinting the booklet “In Search of a
Remarkable Fig Tree” and hopefully it will be available at our
picnic in the park.
This excellent publication
gives a history of the area and is the result of some extensive
research by Malcolm Garrett, Noel Kahler and Rosemary Allen. It
was produced by our association as part of our contribution to the
Australian Bicentenary Celebration in 1988. There will be a small
charge for the booklets to cover the cost of printing.
See you in the park, weather willing on October 30th.
Warren Fletcher
President.
